In my quest to bring you super cheap DIY, I have discovered this beauty. If there is two things college boys like (at least the ones I know?) it’s sharp knives, and girls (hence where the Franzia came from, surely you didn’t think the boys were sippin’ it?) THUS, I present to you, “make your own knife block out of an old wine box”, brought to you by my boyfriend and his housemates. Incase the picture isn’t self-explanatory, read on for the how-to.

DIY BOX O’ WINE KNIFE BLOCK

tumblr_mwjlat5vFw1qfjgvyo1_5001. How exactly does a group of beer chuggers come to find a box (still full upon discovery) of Franzia on their kitchen counter? In order to do this DIY really college boy style, you’ll first need to throw a major party where people, even girls, bring their own booze. Apparently, someone brought this to the party, never drank it, and left it behind. Shame?

2. Have a few lovers of sharp knifes in your house. One of the boys in this house can always been seen sharpening the collection of already sharp knives- which was recently expanded upon when my boyfriend’s mother sent him back to school with another box full of old ones she didn’t want anymore. Point is, get your knives nice and sharp for this to work.

3. Proceed to remove the bag of wine from the box. What you do with this is your business. 😉

4. Instruct knife lover to stab knives into the box as shown. Ensure the knives are evenly dispersed throughout the single side, so that when one or two are removed the box stays upright. Yes, there is more to this than simple stabbing, you must think about gravity and other science-y things like that, if you want it to turn out right!

Of course each one can be customizable to your own wine taste, by flavor and brand.

SO THAT’S IT.  What is the benefits of this, you ask? Easy.

  • The boys’ drawer of knives was getting too full, so they needed another way to organize them. So much more drawer space!
  • Now any possible intruders can spot these babies through the kitchen window, and think twice before breaking in.
  • Had they bought one from a store, the cheapest one I could find online goes for $30. Split 7 ways that’s $4.28 each, which is entirely too much money for one boy to be spending on something that isn’t alcohol or food.
  • Easily accessible once said food is brought into the kitchen for slicing.
  • It fits in so well with the decor! Windowsills packed with liquor bottles, as well as the ongoing wallpapering with beer boxes complete the college alcoholic look.
